So you want to learn how to make money with a fitness blog?
Well, if you’re in the fitness industry, then I’m sure you’re aware of how difficult it can be to make money.
Whether you’re struggling to find clients, or burnt out because you have too many clients, making money in this industry can take a toll on you emotionally.
This is why it’s important to find other ways in which you can capitalize on your expertise as a health and fitness professional.
One of those ways is with a fitness blog.
With over 3 billion people having access to the internet, this is a great opportunity to get yourself out in front of all these people.
So my goal with this article is to show you how you can take your passion for fitness, and turn it into a sustainable online business.
Figure Out Your Target Audience
Knowing who you’re selling to is one of the most important aspects of building your online business.
That’s because the goal of your fitness blog is to help solve the problems your audience have in regards to their health.
Too many times we think we can help everybody, but end up helping no one.
So you want to make sure you choose a niche that targets a selective group of people. By choosing a niche, you become an expert in that given field.
Your audience will look to you as the go to person, which will help your audience grow.
Possible niche topics for your fitness blog could be:
- Women looking to stay fit while pregnant
- Nutrition for the elderly
- Injury Rehabilitation
- How to improve fitness without spending a fortune
- How to overcome getting bored at the gym
- Weight Loss
- Muscle Building
It’s important to make sure you focus on your readers and how you can help solve their problems. Now don’t think you only have to write about your chosen niche.
But it does give you a certain type of focus as you build out your fitness blog.
Start a Fitness Blog
Obviously the goal of starting a fitness blog is to help people and make money. That being the case, blogs that make money tend to have these 7 characteristics:
- An Idea Of Who They’re Targeting
- A lot Of Content
- They Provide Value To Its Readers
- They Have Traffic
- Well Designed
- Easy To Use
- Clear Call To Actions
If you’re a bit confused as to where I’m going with the terms I’ve listed above, basically what I’m saying is that you need a website.
I know there are platforms that allow you to start your own blog. But I would advise against that as having your own site allows you more flexibility and control.
And if you look at sites that are making money online, I can almost guarantee you that they all own their site.
Meaning they own the domain name and have it hosted on a legit service.
Building a website allows you to customize it the way you like which can help you make even more money with it.
Attract Visitors To Your Website
Without people visiting your site, the chances of you make money are pretty slim.
Having traffic allows you to monetize your blog in a variety of ways. Whether you have a product/service to sell, or have ads placed on your site.
Also, it’s important to understand what your audience wants.
Knowing this allows you to create a product or service that helps solves their problems. Too many times people focus on the money rather than helping.
This can be a recipe for disaster. People are very aware of when they are being sold to.
But if you focus primarily on helping first, you will find that it’s easier to sell once the visitor feels they are receiving something of value.
The best and most effective way to get traffic to your blog is through the creation of content.
What I mean by content is, providing your visitors with material to consume on your blog.
Whether it be text, video, or pictures, depending on your niche, each type of content will have its purpose.
Some people like to consume information using text, and some like to consume through video.
It’s up to you to figure out what your audience wants. Regardless of which you choose, content is key to making money with your fitness blog.
Also, you don’t just wanna have products and services your selling. Make sure you’re providing your audience with quality content.
Remember, the goal is to solve their problems. Once you’re able to do that, they will then reward you by eventually buying what you’re selling.
So how do you know what kind of content to create?
What if I told you that there are tools that tell you what people are searching for over the internet? Well there are both free and paid tools that do just that.
There are these things called keywords that are typed into the search engine everyday. I’m sure you’ve seen them before.
If you’ve ever went on a google search bar and started typing, you see words already being formulated. Well those are keywords.
So as you research what type of content to create for your blog, having a keyword tool can be very useful.
Promote On Social Media
Making money with a blog is about getting exposure. The more people that know about what you’re doing, the higher the potential to make money.
Therefore relying on just one source of traffic isn’t maximizing your reach.
With the popularity of social media, it only makes sense to promote your blog on all the different social media platforms.
Some may argue that placing your blogs on social media doesn’t make you the most amount of money.
Although that may be true in some instances, what social media does do is help increase brand awareness.
Social media allows people to learn more about you and what you do. Which can increase your ability to make money in the long term.
Remember, other than money, the goal is to attract visitors. Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook have millions of users.
You would be leaving a lot of visitors on the table if you chose not to promote on them.
So if you have a blog site, one of the best ways to make money is by recommending products and services to people.
There are companies that are willing to pay you a commission if you can get people to make purchases through your blog.
This is called affiliate marketing. What makes affiliate marketing so unique is the fact that you don’t have to carry any inventory.
You pretty much are promoting other people’s products on your site, and getting paid if people decide to buy.
For many who are new to making money online, affiliate marketing is how most people get started, myself included.
