A digital product is an item that can be distributed and or consumed through digital means. They are usually contained in some sort of file that can be accessed through online methods.

With physical products, not only do you need the materials to make the product, but you also need a place to store it.

Depending on the product you’re creating, more than likely it will only need to be created once, and can be distributed over and over again.

Which brings me to my next point.

Remember, digital products can be created in the form of music, video, or text. Once you have everything you need to create this product, when completed, it can be sold multiple times. Each person that makes a purchase is getting the same exact product as the other person.

Before you decide to sell anything, choosing a topic of interest is crucial to finding success to any online business.

The reason being is, you want to become an expert in your chosen niche. You want to be the go to person everyone looks at to learn about your chosen niche.

This will allow you to focus and learn what makes your audience tick by figuring out what bothers them the most.

Once you’re able to do this, you can create a digital product that you know can help solve their problems

Build A Website

Once you have your niche in place, it’s time to create a place to store your product. Not only that, but you need a place for people to go and find it. 

Just like a physical product needs a brick and mortar building, digital products need a digital space. A website does just that.

It’s one of the main ingredients needed to build an online business.

As you build out your site, you will have many things for your visitors to consume. Things like articles, videos, and pictures.

But the goal is to help educate your visitors to making purchase of your product. 

Attract Visitors

Now that you have a website, your goal is to get people to it.  Because without the people, it would be pretty tough making any money.

So when it comes to getting traffic to your site, there are a few ways in which you can do it. Some are free, and others you have to pay. Those ways are:

  • Organic (Free)
  • Ads (Not Free)
  • Social Networks (Both)

I’m going to guess that the people who are reading this article are new to making money online.

So more than likely you will be looking for free ways to get traffic to your site. One of the best ways is organic.

However, do keep in mind that this method does take time to build up. The way you get organic traffic is by creating a lot of content on your site.

Blog articles and videos tend to be the best content to create. Google likes seeing websites create content that helps the online user.

The more you create, the more google will list your article within their search engines. The goal is to get on the first page of google.

And to do this takes a bit of time because you have to create a lot of content on your site.

Ads are another way to generate traffic to your site, but it will cost you. I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of ads online with people promoting their products or services.

Well the same will be for you if you decide to pay for advertisement. And lastly social media.

You could either go the free route by posting your article on your social media pages. Or you could pay for ads that the social media platforms provide.

So depending on your method of choice, this will determine how quickly you can generate traffic to your site.

Earn Money

Once you’ve chosen your niche, built your website, and have traffic coming to your site, the ways in which you can make money is endless.

In the case of digital products, you now have an audience to share your product with. Your job is to educate and help your audience into making a purchase. 

So my tip would be, instead of trying to sell your product to people, focus more on helping solve their problem.

Once you’re able to do that, people will be more than willing to buy whatever it is your selling.

We all look at a business like Amazon, Ebay, or Etsy, and think how cool it would be to have your own product to sell on these platforms.

But if you knew all the work that goes into selling physical products online, you would probably rethink it. Things like:

  • Shipping & handling
  • Returns & Exchanges
  • Updating customers on shipping progress

These are just some of the things that go into selling a physical product. But with a digital product, many of these things are eliminated.

You can create just one digital product that can be distributed to multiple people. There’s no need to worry about where to store it since it will be on your website. 

You don’t have to worry about shipping it as it can instantly be sent as a file or streamed right from your website.

If someone wants to return it, all it takes is a notification to complete. With a digital product, you don’t have to worry about any of the headaches a physical product would bring.

With physical products, it takes so much capital to get the business up and running.

But with digital products, you can get a business up and running for a few hundred bucks. This makes the idea of starting an online business very possible.
