How Long Does It Take To Make Money Blogging?

So how long does it take to make money blogging? To be honest, It really depends. Now I know that‘s not the answer you want to hear, but it’s the truth.

Yea I’m sure you’ve seen read online about how bloggers are making thousands and some millions doing something so simple.

But I’m here to tell you you that none of it came without a bit of work.

Some had started making money within a few months. But for many others, it took years. For me, my first sale came 6 months when I began blogging.

I made a measly $4.50. But guess what, I didn’t care, because the fact that I knew it was possible, made me believe that I could make even more.

So in this article, not only will I be breaking down the factors that determine how quickly you can make money blogging, but also showing you ways in which you can speed up the process.

Factors That Determine How Quickly You Can Make Money Blogging

When it comes to making money online with blogging, there are a few factors that can increase or decrease the chances of you making money. I’ve listed 4 of them to be exact. There are many more, but these tend to be the most common factors.

Factor #1 What’s Your Experience Level With Blogging?

In theory, blogging is one of the easiest ways to make money because of the ease in which it can be implemented.

What’s difficult is figuring how the make money part of blogging works.

And if you’re new to blogging, there’s so much to making money with blogging.

I’m sure you think all you need to do is get a website, post some content, and the money starts flowing in. Unfortunately that’s not the case at all.

Not only do you have to know what people are looking for when creating content, but you also have to be able to solve problems they are having.

All this information requires a lot of data that a beginner like yourself will be unfamiliar with.

Factor #2 Part-Time vs Full-Time Blogger?

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, part-time effort will get you part-time results, and the same can be said for full-time.

Most people start of blogging part-time and understandably so.

We all have bills to pay so making sure we have income to pay those bills is priority.

But someone that is blogging full-time more times than not, will get better results than someone blogging only part-time.

When I first started my blogging site, I had a part-time kickboxing job. I worked like 3-4 days a week, on an 8 hour shift.

But as I got more serious with blogging, I cut my time to maybe 1-2 days a week. So that gave me more time to focus on blogging.

On my off days, I probably put in 8 plus hours to learning more about blogging.

This time benefited me greatly as I made my first sale in six months. So the amount of time you put into blogging will determine the level of success you have with it.

Factor #3 What Are Your Expectations?

It’s easy to hear about people making money online with blogging and think it can’t be that hard.

But this is where many people fail to grasp the level of effort that is needed to be a successful blogger.

People want to know so badly how long it takes to make money, that when when they are told another person's time frame, they expect the same for themselves.

I’m telling you that if you do this, you will find yourself very disappointed.

Just because it took me 6 months to make my first sale, it doesn’t mean the same for the next person.

It could take someone else a year. It all depends on your effort and your level of understanding of how to make money online.

So my advice would be not to measure yourself against someone else, as this can lead to being disappointed.

Factor #4 How Badly Do You Need The Money?

I’ll say this, if you need the money right away, then blogging is definitely not your best option.

Making consistent money with a blog takes a lot of hours and a lot of basic knowledge. Even if you consider yourself a great writer.

If you don’t understand the process of making money online, then your writing skills won’t mean anything.

Before I started my blog, I hated writing. But the more I wrote, the better I got.

But even with my writing skills improving, it was the others things that I learned that led to me being a successful blogger online.

So if you have the patience to build a blog, then that will be one of the most important skills to have.

How To Make Money Blogging

Now that you know what it takes to make money online, it’s time to learn what it takes. The good thing about making money online is that when you understand how it works, all it takes is some effort and the right tools to find success with it.

Understanding how making money online works

Making money online with a blog requires 4 simple steps. Below is a quick view of those steps:

1. Choose An Interest

If you could make money doing anything right now, what would it be? This is a question I like to ask anyone that is interested in making money online.

The reason I ask this is because blogging can be a very tedious process.

But when you’re blogging about something you’re passionate about, for some reason it doesn’t feel that way.

There’s a reason why so many people don’t like their job even though they’re making money from it.

We all want to do things that we enjoy, because we all want to do things that give us purpose.

And blogging can be a great way to find that purpose especially if it’s something that involves you helping people.

So the first thing you want to do before deciding to blog is, figure out what you’re passionate about.

2. Build A Website

If you’re serious about making money with blogging, then having a website is a must. It’s pretty much owning a piece of “online real estate.”

The reason why having a website is so important is because it allows you a variety of ways to make money with it.

I’m sure there’s a lot of fear when talking about building a website, but technology has made the complexity of building a site almost non-existent.

Depending on where you go, you can literally build a website in less than a minute with the right tools.

The most important pieces to building a website are:

  • Domain name
  • Hosting service
  • Content Management System (CMS)
  • Website Email Address

Regardless of how you go about building your website, these things are a must have if you plan on making money blogging.

3. Attract Visitors

Once you have the site in place, it’s time to bring people to your site. Just like a brick and mortar business, in order to make money, you need people to come to your store. So how do you get people to your site?

Below are a few ways:

  • FREE traffic using Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques
  • Paid traffic
  • Promote on social media
  • Email marketing
  • Word of mouth

Depending on your budget, the ways I’ve listed above may or may not work for you.

If money is an issue, then going the free route will be key to your success.

In order to get this free organic traffic, making sure you do proper keyword research will be important.

Each article you write about should target a specific keyword in order to get ranked within the search engines.

Also, promoting on social media is another great way to get free traffic.

If you’re able to produce quality content, you never know, your content may go viral. This will help boost your traffic exponentially.

4. Earn Revenue

This is the actual fun part about blogging. Once you’re able to generate traffic to your site, then it’s time to monetize this traffic.

The hardest part for many bloggers is being able to get people to their site.

So a lot of times, people tend to get discouraged and give up all together in doing so.

But if you’re using the correct techniques as listed above, then understanding how to get people to make purchases on your site is the next step.

Now do you have to be an elite sales person? Not at all. The best way to sell is by helping.

If you can help solve your audience’s problem, they will be more than willing to buy from you.

So instead of trying to sell to people, focus on trying to help people. The money will come eventually.

Next I will show you ways in which you can monetize your site.

Ways Bloggers Make Money

  • Advertising & Sponsored content
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Digital Products
  • Physical Products
  • Services

Advertising & Sponsored Content

There is a lot of money in the marketing industry. Companies pay billions of dollars just to get their products in front of potential customers.

This is a big reason networks pay corporations like the NFL billions to broadcast their games.

Companies are also willing to do the same for bloggers. By paying you a percentage just to promote their products to your audience.

This is done by either displaying banner ads around your site, or by providing you with free content to promote on your site.

There are many other ways, but advertising is just one of the many ways you can earn money with your site.

Affiliate Marketing

One of the most, if not the most popular way to make money through blogging is affiliate marketing.

In fact, it’s exactly how I got started blogging and built a six figure business in just 27 months.

The way affiliate marketing works is that you get access to links that you can place in your articles.

If someone happens to click on the link and make a purchase, you the site owner receive a commission.

What makes this so popular is the fact that there’s absolutely no inventory cost when promoting such products.

All you have to do it talk about the product or services you’re promoting on your site, and get paid for people making a purchase through your affiliate links.

This is how most people start off when looking to make money online.

But learning how to make money with affiliate marketing as a beginner can be difficult.

That’s why it’s important to get proper training, and learn what it takes to make money online.

Digital Products

I believe that affiliate marketing is a great way for those new to making money online to get started at a very low cost.

But as you gain even more experience with the online world, the next step would be to create your own product.

Another low cost method is by creating your own digital products.

Digital products are popular because they don’t require any inventory and can be distributed quickly.

There is virtually no overhead, and the risk is minimum. The only thing it will cost you is time. But it is more than worth it.

Some examples of digital products are:

  • Ecourses
  • Ebooks
  • Membership sites
  • Apps, plugins or themes
  • Art
  • Photos
  • Audio or video

There are so many more forms of digital products.

Having a website allows you to be creative and sell whatever type of product you feel will be of value to your audience.

Although this requires a bit of experience, it is something to definitely get into as you learn more about what your audience want.

Physical Products

As websites started growing in the online world, business started selling their products online. For those just getting started, this can be a difficult business to handle.

Many figured they could reduce the stress by going the drop shipping route. Still, selling physical products requires a level of experience to be successful at it.

This is another growing method for bloggers building their online business. If you have a certain level of expertise, creating a blog site is a great way to promote such skills.

Some ways in which bloggers do this are:

  • Coaching
  • Speaking engagements
  • Virtual assistance
  • Freelancing

This can be an excellent way to make a lot of money quickly since it is very low cost and doesn’t require an inventory.

The downside however is that it is very hard to scale. There is only so much time in the day, and the only way in which you earn income is by giving up your time.

So if you are someone that believes in passive income, this route might not be suited for you. But if you manage it properly, it can be a great source of revenue for you.

How You Can Get Started With Your Own Blog And Make Money

The most important thing when looking to learn how to make money online is training.

It’s hard to be successful at something if you lack the knowledge to understand it.

Before I started making money online back in 2016, I had absolutely zero knowledge of how it worked.

But I found a program that provided me with training and education.

You can get started with a free website, and if you like it, you can easily upgrade to get access to more features.

So if you’re interested in learning more about it, get access here.

How I Earn My Money Online

In 2018, I finally became a Six Figure Business, and it only took 27 months to get there. This allowed me to leave my part time job, and become a full time affiliate marketer.
